Catching up

I have not even had time to blog since we went through the roller coaster of our amnio. We were surprised with early test results that were negative and they confirmed that we are in fact having a boy. It made the anxiety and the discomfort of the test worth it. We have decided to name him Coby Daniel. We have been painting and shopping preparing for the little guys arrival in 90 days. Since then we have had the anxiety of having my dad having heart surgery just in time. He doesn't realize how much we need him for the next 25+ plus years for the kids as well as us grownups. My dad's presence and love in our lives is much needed and we all are grateful he came out of surgery OK. If you have not known me these last few years you wouldn't know that I am not much for church or any type or religion for that matter. Don't get me wrong I have a strong faith of my own that I feel in my heart and soul by as for anything else, its just not quite there for me. However every time I feel as though I need a little extra help I look to my dad for a father's blessing and he always knows just what to say to make it all better. He blessed little Coby to be healthy and I truly believe it made a difference. If anything it made me stop worrying about it. This little guy is going to be grandpa's new fishing buddy. As far as everything else, Dan and I flew to CO to check out a job offer in Loveland. It was a nice and much needed weekend alone. However the burden of deciding to leave UT or not was weighing on me the whole time. I love having my family so close as well as having the cousins so close like siblings. I am about 13 classes away from my BA in exercise science and want to finish at the U of U. Plus I feel so fortunate to have picked up so many exercise classes in the valley as well as meeting such great people who have become regulars in my day. So we decided that its not the time to leave UT. So for now we are preparing Chloe for kindergarten, Hannah for Jr High, and Preston for High school. Where has the time gone? I am also excited to be home more starting this summer. In hopes that I will be able to take most of my classes online or at the local campus so I can be with this new little boy.

How things can change is an instant

WOW...normally I am all about bogging the little things that are going on, but I am now feeling compelled to journal all these feelings I am having that only other moms going through this would know how I am feeling.

It all started with the ultra sound that Dan and I took all the kids too in anticipation of whether or not we are adding a brother or sister to our family. The technician moved the wand around my belly measuring every nook and cranny. Pointing out the head, spine, little feet, and hands. She then asked if we wanted to know gender, of course we did. ITS A BOY she said, and Chloe said " I know its a boy but won't it be a girl when it comes out?" she was so wanting a little sister to share her toys with. The tech than said she needed to go get the Doctor to have a look as well. I wasn't really thinking anything of this since I was just so happy to be in the room with all my kids, and Dan and finding out I get to raise another son. Dan had to go back to work so I told him it was probably OK for him to go. As soon as he left I lay there wondering why the doctor was coming in. It wasn't my doctor I was using a midwife. She came in and didn't say much, she got back on the monitor and began measuring and re- measuring everything from the legs to the little heart. She than walked out of the room and came back with a big book. I sat up and she said "lets talk about your age and your risk factors for down syndrome," what? what did she say? I began to blur at that moment. The next few things I write are little of what can remember from our conversation. She began to write down what a normal skin fold on a baby should be and what our babies measurement was. 5 cm was normal and his was 6.3. She than began to show us the bright spot in his heart and told me that it was a sign of a heart defect seen in down syndrome babies. By this time the tears wanted to come, but I was looking at Preston and Hannah who were looking as confused as I was and I knew it wouldn't be a good thing to have tears come. She than told me he had two bright spots on his bowel which was also a soft marker for down syndrome. She began to tell me how my chances began to double than quadrupole for a downs baby. She told me my testing options and what they could do right then. I told her I wanted to talk to my midwife. As soon as the doctor left the room, I scooped up Chloe and told Preston and Hannah that I needed to get out of there. I got in the car and called Dan. I don't really know if he knew what I was saying, but the tears finally came. The kids wanted know what was really going on. I don't know if I really knew what was going on either. I was at the office for 2 hours and started to get texts from everyone wanting to know the sex. I wasn't even ready to tell anyone. I wanted to be excited that he was a boy, but I wasn't really anything right then. I finally called my mom and told her. She told me that they are very special spirits and they are only sent to very special people. Well I didn't want to be special, I wanted a healthy baby boy. I had to call my sister Kellee because she would have called me at any moment. I told her and the tears began to fall. I feel like I can tell her anything and needed someone to understand what I was feeling cause so far I felt so alone. I began to look things up on the internet about soft marker and read stories of other moms who were going through the same thing I was. The next day I began to feel a little better and kept busy by going to class and teaching. I called my midwife and she wasn't in! The nurse called her at her home and she obtained my results from the hospital I had my scan done at. She called me right away and explained things better to me since I wasn't really listening at the appointment. Then she told me that I had a 1 in 10 chance of having a downs baby. At the time I was at the store with Chloe and stopped dead in my tracks and forgot where I was for a few minutes. She told me my testing options to know for sure what to expect. I knew I needed to know so I could prepare myself and my family. I also knew I was going to love this little guy no matter what. I opted to have the amnio test done. I am still not feeling the best about having the test but I am one for needing to know. I do not like these kinds of surprises. I have been walking in a daze for three days and have even reached out to the facebook community for answers. I began joining DS support groups and have been reading up on outcomes of these tests based on the ultra sounds and blood work (which mine was normal). Chloe keeps asking why I am sad, and all I can say is I am worried about the baby. She just keeps hugging and kissing my belly. I guess I have to find my faith in God once more. I am being sent these special boys for a reason and I guess its time to find that reason.

Christmas 2010

Well its come and gone once again. The kids were spoiled by Santa and got all they asked for. We had Christmas Eve dinner at our house and played white elephant after we enjoyed a ham dinner. The girls and I baked goodies all day on Christmas eve and Chloe was sure to leave Santa cookies and a barley pop AKA "beer" at daddy's request.
After Christmas we headed up to West Yellowstone for a week of relaxing, family, and snow boarding at Big Sky ski resort. The jeep broke down due to -20 degree weather so we were stuck there for another day and a half. After we got the jeep going the roads home were all closed so we enjoyed our last day eating pancakes and trying to warm up.

Thanksgiving in Santa Monica CA

We left a day early and stayed in Vegas due to the fact that UT was suppose to get the storm on of the century, when it just ended up being a dusting and some ice. But the kids thought Vegas was pretty cool. Mike and Elizabeth were nice enough to let us crash in their little sea side apartment for Thanksgiving. Even though Mike decided to cook an ALL SEAFOOD thanksgiving. Did I mention that I HATE seafood and was battling all day pregnancy sickness this weekend. I was craving only tacos all weekend. Mike is such a great cook and I am glad he made me a turkey. *Thanks Mike your the best bro-in-law ever!! We enjoyed the Beach both in Santa Monica and Venice. I LOVE Cali and would move there any day. The girls and I enjoyed Black Friday shopping on the third street promenade. Kinda ironic that we left to avoid bad roads, only to have roads closed on really covered in snow on our way home. Our usual 11 hour trip took us 16 hours to get home. Thanks goodness for electronics.

Adding #6 to our family June 30th 2011

YES! Its official we are expecting baby #4 (#6 to the family) I am due June 30th 2011. Right now I am just very tired and not feeling to well. I just hope I get through the rest of the semester so I can enjoy the holidays as I move into 2nd trimester. The verdict is in on what the baby is going to be along with names that are picked our according to each kid. Preston: its a boy and we want to name him Dre Hannah: wants a boy and him to be named Koen, but if its a girl she should be Renee Chloe: its a girl and we are going to name her toothbrush. HMM not quite sure about that last one!

Breakfast with the witches

To call it an end to fall break and to welcome Halloween, the girls and I took my mom to breakfast with witches at Gardner Village on Friday morning. I LOVE this time of year. We had a yummy brunch and got to meet all the witches and have them sign autographs. Then we met my sisters and their kids and wondered around eating caramel apples and getting our face painted. Well Chloe is the only lucky one that got to get the fun glitter eyes. I love Halloween and can't wait for some more fall fun.
